2024 Chevy Tahoe Overview
The All New 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe
After releasing its fifth-generation Tahoe in 2021, Chevrolet will give this full-size SUV a midcycle refresh in 2024, modernizing it inside and out. Here at Gerry Lane Chevrolet in Baton Rouge, we’ve put together all the information we have about the upcoming 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe so you’ll know what to expect when it reaches our dealership.
Interior and Exterior
The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe has dimensions that are almost identical to the 2023 model. Both SUVs are 210.7 inches long and 81 inches wide. Measuring 75.9 inches, the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe is just 0.1 inches taller than its predecessor, but such a minute change isn’t likely to make much difference. All interior dimensions are consistent between the 2023 and 2024 models, so drivers and their passengers in the front and back get just as much headroom, legroom, and hip room. The upholstery also hasn’t changed, although the new Tahoe gets some cutting-edge new technology.
The touch screen has grown a smidgen, from 10.2 inches in 2023 to 10.3 inches, for easier use at a glance. The infotainment screen sits in a new curved two-tier panel with an upgraded instrument cluster. A larger volume knob and a transmission shift lever beside the steering column stalk, replacing the shift buttons on the center stack, make this new driving set-up more intuitive. Connectivity features such as music streaming, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspots, and voice recognition help the new Tahoe keep pace with its competition.
2024 Chevy Tahoe Performance
The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe will have three engine options, starting with the standard 5.3-liter V-8 L84 gasoline engine seen in past models. It generates 355 horsepower and 383 lb-feet of torque. The 6.2-liter V-8 L87 gasoline engine, which produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, also makes a return for 2024. The 2.0-liter I-6 LZ0 Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine is a worthy replacement for the previously offered 3.0-liter I6 LM2 Duramax Turbo-Diesel motor. It generates 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, an improvement on the LM2’s 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
As in 2023, all three Chevrolet Tahoe engines connect to a 10-speed automatic transmission system. Models with the 6.2-liter V-8 engines now get dual-mode exhaust systems to boost their performance. Rear-wheel- and four-wheel-drive systems are both options in 2024.
Since the new Tahoe isn’t yet in production, its mileage and performance are unclear. However, given past models, it’s likely that the 2024 model will perform well for its size, with capable acceleration and braking ability. Edmunds praised the 2023 Tahoe for its tight turning circle and light steering, which helped motorists forget they were driving such a large vehicle. As with past models, the diesel-powered Tahoe is likely to be the most fuel-efficient choice.
In 2024, the Tahoe’s maximum towing capacity drops to 8,000 pounds, down from 8,200 pounds the previous year. That’s still powerful enough to tow most large boats, campers, and trailers. The 6.2-liter V-8 and diesel engines are more suited to towing than the base motor.
Comfortability
As the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe has identical interior dimensions to the 2023 model, it’s likely to be just as comfortable as its predecessor. Passengers enjoy generous headroom for this class throughout, even in the very back. The wide-opening doors also make accessing all the seats easy. The driver’s seat is also likely to be adjustable, as it was in 2023, for greater comfort on long journeys.
With 22.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, you’ve slightly less room in the back than in the 2023 model. However, if you’ve got large loads, you can fold down the seats and increase your cargo space to the 122.9 cubic feet seen last year. Chevrolet hasn’t yet announced the 2024 Tahoe’s organizational features, but it’s likely to have a similar array of cup holders, door pockets, and storage bins to keep your essentials organized.
2024 Chevy Tahoe Safety Features
Chevrolet is still leaving motorists guessing about which safety features the 2024 Tahoe might include. As with other Chevrolet vehicles, the Chevy Safety Assist system should be standard at all trim levels. This system includes the following driver-assistance features:
- Forward collision alert.
- Automatic emergency braking.
- Front pedestrian braking.
- Lane-keep assist with lane departure warning.
- Following distance indicator.
- Intellibeam auto high-beam assist.
As with last year’s Tahoe vehicles, we’re likely to see Super Cruise on some higher trim levels. This high-tech driving system lets attentive motorists enjoy hands-free driving on selected roads. Special features such as lane centering and adaptive cruise control can make driving with Super Cruise even safer than traditional motoring.
Style and Design
The Chevrolet Tahoe is still a relatively traditional SUV, but it gets a small facelift for 2024. New front fascias separate the headlights into two tiers, giving it a signature modern Chevrolet look. It’s more than an aesthetic choice, though. The top of the headlights serve as the daytime running lights and turn signals, while the bottom part forms the forward light and high beams. The rear fascia and taillights also receive a refresh for this model year.
The roof-mounted communications fin, which receives onboard satellite radio and 4G LTE, was also redesigned. In 2024, it’s less angular and fin-like, more like a small dome or puck on the SUV’s roof. Chevrolet will also offer the Tahoe with head-turning 24-inch alloy wheels for the first time, in line with the rest of its 2024 SUV fleet. While these enormous wheels are bound to attract attention, they’re also very practical. Motorists who choose this option should notice their Tahoe achieves better traction and handles corners more easily because the wheels put more rubber on the road.
Still Curious About the 2024 Tahoe?
With production not expected to start until November 2023, we’ll be waiting some time before the new Chevrolet Tahoe hits dealerships. With the Chevrolet Tahoe only receiving minor updates since 2021, many of these pre-owned vehicles are an excellent option until the 2024 Tahoe arrives.
